Pro Tip: Going Old School

Today’s Pro Tip is to go “old-school”: print everything and put it in the client’s folder. This means photos of the site (one from every seasonal planting), the updated client record, and a cemetery map with the location marked.

Why? Because when you’re at the cemetery or in the nursery, you don’t want to rely on your memory. Personally, as my list of clients grows, I can forget that Mrs. Walters loves coral geraniums, but Mr. Pirlo can’t stand the smell. And I don’t want to plant the same thing every fall, so if I look at pictures from past years, I can adjust right there in the nursery to ensure the design stays fresh.

And, though I’ve never been asked, having the client’s folder with you when you’re in the cemetery is proof that you’re a professional working on behalf of the gravesite owner.
